Christian Ertl is a saxophonist and educator born and raised in Waukee, IA and is now based out of Philadelphia. During his career, he has had the pleasure of playing with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Dick Oatts, Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco, Terell Stafford, and many more. In 2020, he was selected as the lead alto saxophonist in the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra. In 2023, he won the collegiate division of the US Army Blues Solo Competition. As a bandleader, he has toured with “The Christian Ertl Quartet” throughout the midwest during the summer of 2025. He played on multiple BCM&D recordings including “Rainforests,” “Labyrinth,” “Red Braid,” and “Still Thinking.” Christian Ertl graduated from Temple University with his B. A. and M.A. in jazz performance.
