David Bernot is a Denver-based saxophonist, woodwindist, composer, and educator. He holds degrees from the University of Denver (B.M.) and the University of Colorado Boulder (M.M.), and he is currently completing his Doctorate of Arts at the University of Northern Colorado, where he also teaches jazz saxophone as an adjunct professor.
In March 2022, Bernot released his debut album, Never-Ending Cycle. Produced in partnership with Nocturne Productions, the album features his original compositions performed by an all-Colorado band. He performs regularly along the Colorado front range with ensembles like the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra and as a sideman and bandleader at Dazzle and Nocturne jazz clubs in Denver. Some of his notable performance credits include sharing the stage with renowned jazz artists such as Greg Gisbert, Carmen Bradford, Drew Zaremba, Shane Endsley, Remy Lebouef, Colin Stranahan, Sarah Hanahan, Wayne Bergeron, and more.
Also an award-winning performer and composer, Bernot received international recognition by winning first place at the 2022 Carinthian International Jazz Saxophone Competition held in Austria. His compositions have been recognized as one of ASCAP’s Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award recipients in 2016 and 2020, by the Downbeat Student awards in 2024, and his performing and composing portfolios earned him a spot as a fellowship member of the Ravinia Festival Steans Jazz Institute in 2025. He has also presented his scholarly work at national conferences, including at the 2025 Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and the 2024 and 2025 North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) conferences in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Fullerton, California respectively.
