ROB BABEL retired in 2023 as Director of Bands at Fort Zumwalt North High School in the St. Louis area. Under his direction, the FZN Jazz Band presented concerts at The Midwest Clinic three times, the Missouri Music Educators Conference four times and the Jazz Education Network Conference twice. As part of its annual guest artist concerts, the FZN Jazz Band performed with Bobby Shew, Bill Watrous, Wayne Bergeron, Eric Marienthal, Denis DiBlasio, Steve Houghton, Stockton Helbing, Chris Vadala, Chip McNeil, Harry Watters, Willie Murillo, James Morrison, and several other prominent jazz artists.
Mr. Babel has received the Charles Emmons Outstanding Band Director Award from Lamda Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, the MMEA Outstanding Music Educator Award, the Missouri Assocation of Jazz Educators Outstanding Jazz Educator Award, and the St. Louis Metro District 8 Music Educator of the Year. In 2024, he was inducted into the St. Louis Metro District 8 Hall of Fame. Mr. Babel stays active as a clinician and currently serves as the Music Coordinator for the Lindbergh School District and as an Educational Representative for Ernie Williamson Music.
