Born in Vancouver, Canada, trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and educator Ingrid Jensen has been hailed as one of the most gifted improvising musicians of her generation. A graduate from Berklee in 1989, she went on to record for the ENJA label, soon becoming one of the most in-demand players on the global jazz scene. She won the Carmine Caruso Jazz Trumpet competition in 1991, received the Jazz Journalists Trumpeter of the Year in 2019, and is consistently listed in the top five in Downbeat magazine's readers and critics polls, alongside the top trumpet players in the world.
After teaching at Bruckner Conservatory in Austria, Ingrid settled in New York City, where she played with the jazz orchestras of DIVA, Maria Schneider, the Mingus Big Band, and Darcy James Argue. She was a longstanding member of the Mosaic Project with the Grammy-winning Teri-Lyne Carrington and has appeared as a featured soloist on numerous Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra Juno award-winning albums. She has performed and recorded with a multi-generational cast of jazz legends, from Esperanza Spalding to Clark Terry, Art Farmer, and Dr. Billy Taylor, to Sarah McLachlan and Corrine Bailey Ray. She is a key member of the supergroup Artemis, signed to Blue Note Records. She is currently on the Jazz Faculty of both Manhattan School of Music and City College in New York.
Her recent project with Organist Gary Versace, drummer Jon Wikan, guitarist Marvin Sewell, with special guest George Coleman, will be released on the Newvelle record label on February 27th, 2026.
