Mike Steinel is an internationally recognized jazz educator and the author of numerous books: Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble (Book 1 and 2), Building a Jazz Vocabulary, and Running The Changes (Hal Leonard). He has recorded with the Frank Mantooth Orchestra, the Chicago Jazz Quintet, and the Mike Waldrop Big Band. He has performed throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia; with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Clark Terry, Don Ellis, Bill Evans, Zoot Sims, Jerry Bergonzi, Jimmy Heath and others. His first CD as leader: “Song And Dance” was released on Origin Records in 2018. Mike's most recent release is: "Saving Charlie Parker: A Suite" on Rosewood Audio. He is the author of a print novel: Saving Charlie Parker published by Dorrance Books. Mike served on the University of North Texas Jazz Faculty from 1987 to 2019.
