Carlos Castellblanch M.M. is a scholar of Black American Music, jazz educator and keyboardist
with over ten years of teaching experience. He received his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts degree in
Jazz and Contemporary Music from the New School in New York, NY and his Masters of Music
degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado, where he is currently a
Graduate Assistant and doctoral student.
He has written about many musical topics including the confluence of the black power movement and the music of Herbie Hancock, streams of influence from early jazz pianists through contemporary keyboardists, and the role of Uptown New Orleans as a birthplace and home for generations of significant Black American musicians. His current research interests include the similarities in origins of jazz and hip hop music, and scholarly regard for contemporary urban Black American Music.
Carlos has performed and recorded with artists such as Adriel Vincent Brown, Dahi Divine, Alfredo Colon, Brian Casey, Tony Baker, Drew Zaremba, Skyler Mendell, David Bernot, Alex Szotak, and Marcos Robinson. He has performed at venues including Zinc Bar, 1015 Folsom, Yoshi's, Back Room, Bottom of the Hill, the Great American Music Hall, Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center, and Dazzle.
